SHAUN-HILL INSPIRATION PORTRAIT
For this illustration, we were given an illustrator we did or never knew of and use their style illustration on our portrait. This was a challenge as it went out of my comfort zone and allowed me to figure out and learn their techniques of illustration.
Shaun Hill was my chosen illustrator. a few things about him is that he is a South African freelance illustrator who creates pieces about his imagination. By looking at some of his work, some is scratchy and jiggered line work with 2 or 3 colours used. This use of colour is like my illustration as I usually work with 3 or 4 colours in my pieces. His style is cartoon like with a lot of different shading techniques which was a challenge for me.
Looking through his pieces, I began to see his techniques and how I can use this in my portrait. I used one of his drawings as reference with shading, colours and line work. I enjoyed using different techniques and getting to know Photoshop much better as I did nit like it before. With each colour and element, I used layers which made it easier to control the process and go back where I could fix or improve a mistake. In the end, I am very pleased with my final design as it was a new experience for me and I could complete the challenge.
