BLUE PENCIL TO DIGITAL - VISCOM 3
13/03/19
We were inspired to start drawing illustrations using the blue pencil technique. With this, it allows to easily erase the blue outline of the illustration once scanned into Photoshop. This is a different approach for me and my illustration drawings. However, with knowing how to scan and erase the blue, I really started to enjoy the end result of filling the image with colour. This is how it was done;
First we looked at an image of a plant and building and drew it, in blue/red pencil, in our style and in anyway we could. I drew the main part of the leaves and decided to add something to it so I drew my hand holding the plant. The building one was not my favourite outcome and battled to scan and finalise it on Photoshop as I didn't complete the line work on the original image. I took a clear picture of the plant image and scanned it onto Photoshop. Here is the steps I used;
In addition to this, we learnt how to fill in the digital image using the magic wand tool and selecting different areas to fill in with colour. This was very different for me but I got the hang of it in the end. It was a new technique that I will definitely use for other stuff. This was the process;
Here is the finished results;

I tried using shading and new colours for the 3 element illustration to make it a bit better. This is a redesign I have done to improve on my photoshop skills;

I took a clear picture of the plant image and scanned it onto Photoshop. Here is the steps I used;
- Place image onto artboard
- Crop image (embed - mask - marquee tool - inverse select)
- Image - adjustments - brightness and contrast
- Image - adjustments - levels
- Image - adjustments - curves - cyan (drag line) - magenta - yellow (this erases the blue pencil lines)

- Merge layers together
- Lock original drawing layer
- Magic wand - select outside - inverse selection
- Select - modify - contract - 2
- Edit - fill - colour
