HELLO THERE

I am a 21 year old student finishing my final year at Vega Durban, studying a BA in Creative Brand Communication. I specialize in Visual Communication and will soon be a package and graphic designer.

 Through the years, I have been encouraged to find my style and I am slowly realizing what it is. I have a natural style that is simplistic and free flowing. I have called myself Aesthetic Neighbour as the main brand identity but I am slowly moving along lines of 'Tatted Indie'. I have chosen this name because my style is completely out the norm and I see the creative aspects in a world that is easily missed. I describe my style as indie mixed with grunge and as mentioned with natural elements added. Through the course of my study, I have changed and adapted my brand identity as I have grown, as a person and my creative skills

  • Packaging designs
  • Illustration
  • Photography

I do keep a low profile about myself as I am a shy person. However, I am not afraid to show my art pieces and make them better each time. I am constantly teaching myself new skills in my spare time to expand my creative ability. I am always excited for new challenges that I am faced with and explore different solutions to impress not only the viewer but myself.

ICE CREAM TUTORIAL - VISCOM

We were all given links of tutorials that we could do. There were different ones like Star Wars and barber shop tools. I chose the ice cream tutorial to do as the patterns, colours and shapes weren't my usual illustrating style.  Following the steps were quite challenging as i didn't use the tools needed before and I was slow getting around illustrator with these new techniques. However, through the process, it kind of left you to remember the first two steps which I had to go back and remember. It was fun using new tools and techniques and creating something that is not my style but I can use for future works. ISOMETRIC SUSHI ICONS (PROJ 6)

Another task I explored further was the 10 things I cannot live without icons posted on May, 29. I used a different style of illustration called isometric by creating a grid and drawing 3D objects on Illustrator. I wanted to challenge myself with this as I did not enjoy the process last time.  I went back to how to create a grid on Illustrator which started me off. The icons I have created are of different types of sushi but not round and organic, they are geometric, straight lines. The reason behind this was to show the isometric feel, more in a geometric form. I have been inspired by many different isometric illustrations and most are geometric. The only elements that are organic are the sushi filling and the salmon.  I used basic and softer colours that I believe represents the different parts of a sushi roll. PORTFOLIO - PROJ 3

During my 3rd and final year of becoming a graphic designer, I have slowly been identifying myself with a style of simplicity and a natural flare. I do not go with the crowd so I identify myself as an Indie who is someone who thinks independently and starts their own trend. I am inspired by nature which is shown through my designs and creative solutions. For project   of Visual Communication, I created a simple portfolio designs that expresses myself style with the idea of becoming a graphic designer after my studies. I created a box that held different aspects of my journey through the  years of studying and the theme of simplicity and a natural flare. In the box had 3 A5 series books called photography, freelance and specialisation. They were bound with a little sleeve called 'book series'. Each book had the same style and colours through out.
