10 THINGS I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT - ICONS
Finding 10 things I cannot live without was quite difficult as it is not something I always think about. We were challenged to write down 10 things we cannot live without and do icon designs based on these objects. First, we were shown many different icon designs from illustrators and were inspired to design our own. We had to find our own inspiration, something we have never done or in a style that is not the same to our style.
Looking through different designs, I found a website, DRIBBBLE, where there was this cool 3D type of icon that really caught my eye. It was almost Japanese/Asian style with simple line and colour. I was told it was an isometric icon where the object is made to look 3D using a grid. This was very new to me which I was excited to do.
I had to fist make a grid which took a long time to do and many tutorials. I first made a grid with left and right diagonals but later noticed I needed the vertical lines too. The 10 items are did in the end were; box of tea, phone, longboard, my cat, plants, alcohol, glasses, laptop, jotter and earphones.
I had to first scamp the objects out to get a rough idea how they will look using the grid. it was difficult to switch my brain into thinking 3D when I only work with 2D objects on illustrator. For each drawing, I used 2 colours with shadow to make it 3D but the rounded shapes were difficult to create.
Here are the final icons;
